No active submission deadline is listed on this page. Researchers may email to request notification when a new request for proposals becomes available.

Before you prepare

Start with the current call

Each request for proposals may set its own focus, schedule, eligibility rules, and submission method. The guidance here explains the core proposal structure but does not itself confirm an open funding round.

Request notification of a new call

Contact Migraine Research Fund if you would like to ask about future opportunities or clarify these general application requirements. Use a concise subject line and do not send confidential participant information.

Project period

One-year scope

Plan a focused project that can reasonably be completed within an expected period of one year.

Eligible use

Direct research costs

Requested support should be reserved for research activity and directly related research equipment.

Required format

Complete submission

Applications must follow the specified structure and include all required supporting documents.

Funding framework

Proposal guidelines

Scope and duration

Design the proposal around a one-year project period. The project should contribute to understanding migraine, its effects, or approaches to diagnosis, prevention, or treatment.

Funding restrictions

Funds may be used only for research and equipment directly related to that work. The following costs are outside the stated funding scope:

  • Capital expenditures unrelated to the direct research plan
  • Administrative expenses, including ethics-review approval costs
  • Publication and travel costs
  • Institutional overhead

Fringe benefits charged to salaries are capped at 25%. A detailed budget should explain and justify every requested category.

Review and conflicts

Proposals are assessed through scientific and organizational review. Anyone with a conflict concerning an application should take no part in evaluating that proposal. Following review, recommendations proceed to the body responsible for the final funding decision.

Because application volume may be substantial, submissions that omit required sections or disregard the stated format may not advance to review.

What's included

Required application components

Use this checklist to organize the proposal. A future call may add requirements, so compare every submission against the instructions issued for that funding round.

  1. Project titleProvide a concise title that accurately reflects the proposed study.
  2. Investigator detailsIdentify each principal investigator and designate one person responsible for the project. Co-investigators may also be listed. Supply the contact fields required by the active call through its approved submission process.
  3. Grants administration contactIdentify the institutional officer responsible for grants administration and provide the fields requested in the current call.
  4. Research settingDescribe the institution or settings in which the proposed research will be conducted.
  5. Lay abstractIn no more than 350 words, summarize the hypothesis, innovation, and potential contribution to migraine understanding or care. Reserve the detailed aims for the next section.
  6. Specific aimsList and number each aim, then explain it. All designated aims form part of the proposed grant scope.
  7. Timeline and recruitmentEstimate the time needed to complete the project. Clinical studies should briefly explain how participants would be recruited.
  8. Prior workState whether work has begun on this line of inquiry and summarize relevant progress.
  9. Potential duplicationExplain whether the study overlaps with research in your group, clinical setting, or elsewhere.
  10. Pending supportDisclose pending funding applications that include the proposed project.
  11. Research proposalDescribe the plan, benchmarks, endpoints, and basis for sample size. The proposal narrative is limited to five pages; references do not count toward that limit.
  12. Detailed budgetAttach an itemized budget consistent with the funding restrictions and fringe-benefit cap.
  13. Investigator biosketchAttach an NIH-style biosketch or equivalent for each principal investigator.

How applications move

From preparation to decision

The exact schedule and submission mechanism belong to the active request for proposals. This general workflow helps teams prepare responsibly.

STEP 01

Check the call

Confirm that submissions are open and read the current topic, eligibility, deadline, and format.

STEP 02

Build the package

Complete every required section and align the proposal, timeline, budget, and biosketches.

STEP 03

Submit as directed

Use only the method specified in the current call and verify that all files are complete.

STEP 04

Scientific review

Eligible proposals proceed through review and conflict management before a final decision.

Frequently asked questions

Application essentials

These answers summarize the supplied guidelines. Requirements in an active request for proposals take precedence.

Is an application round currently open?

No active deadline is displayed here. Email Migraine Research Fund to ask about future requests for proposals or notification options.

How long should the proposed project take?

The expected project duration is one year. The work plan, aims, recruitment approach, and budget should be realistic for that period.

What can grant funds support?

Support is restricted to research and directly related research equipment. Institutional overhead, publication, travel, specified administrative costs, and unrelated capital expenditures are excluded.

How long can the proposal narrative be?

The overall research proposal is limited to five pages. References may be added without counting toward that limit.

What belongs in the lay abstract?

Use no more than 350 words to explain the hypothesis, innovation, and potential contribution to migraine understanding or care in accessible language.

What should a clinical proposal say about participants?

It should briefly explain how participants would be recruited, alongside the project timeline and relevant study design information.

Must other funding applications be disclosed?

Yes. State whether any pending applications include the same project, and explain possible overlap or duplication.

Where can I ask a grant question?

Email info@migraineresearchfund.en-html.org. Avoid including confidential participant or health information in an initial enquiry.
